HSWA Response to Coronavirus

Highland Sewer & Water Authority (HSWA) does not anticipate any disruptions to the water service or water quality issues due to coronavirus (COVID-19). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization confirmed coronavirus has not been detected in drinking water supplies. They also acknowledge that the disinfection process and filtration methods used are effective in removing bacteria and viruses, including coronavirus, from drinking water.

The HSWA office remains open for business to accommodate the needs of the community. However, we are taking preventative steps for the safety of our customers and our employees. Beginning on Monday, March 16, 2020, HSWA is closing customer access for walk-in business at our office. Starting on March 23, 2020, our front office staff is primarily working remotely from home to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Until further notice, payments can be made online through the customer portal, over the phone with a valid credit card, sent through the mail, or by utilizing the drop-off payment slot. This would also be a great time to enroll in AutoPay. During this same period, our technicians will be limiting house visits to emergency issues only.

HSWA wants to remind our customers and employees to follow best practices established by the CDC including:

  • Wash your hand often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not an option
  • Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose or mouth
  • Avoid close contact with people that may be sick, this includes shaking hands
  • Reduce social interactions
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects frequently
  • Stay home when you are sick

HSWA will continue to communicate our plans as we closely monitor the situation. Thank you for your understanding.
