The Authority operates two (2) separate “well-fields”,--the NORTHERN END (serving the Lilly/Cresson area) and the LLOYDELL (serving Dunlo, Krayn and Onnalinda) systems. Though each is operated as a wholly independent system they both draw water from the same high quality aquifer, the Mauch Chunk formation, located along the northwestern slope of the Allegheny front.
Fortunately, the Watersheds for these wells are located in sparsely populated/developed areas along the Cambria County side of the ridge of the Allegheny Mountains near the Cambria-Blair and Cambria-Bedford counties border. The majority of the property within the Watersheds is comprised of PA State Game Lands and large private holdings.
Both well systems produce a consistently Clear, Soft, Alkaline and “delicious” water of a quality that is second to none.

The Mauch Chunk aquifer is “famous” for producing large/reliable flows (when tapped properly) of a excellent quality (soft and alkaline) water. The Northern End System utilizes five (5) wells tapping the Mauch Chunk formation and One (1) low-volume producing well utilizing the Burgoon formation. The Permitted capacity of this well-field is 1.64 Million gpd. This Well System serves Highland customers North and East of Lilly, with the primary users in the Cresson area.
The Lloydell Wells system presently utilizes Two (2) wells tapping this same Mauch Chunk aquifer, but in the Beaverdale/Lloydell area. A third well is drilled and capped and would be available for future use when the demand warrants. The currently Permitted two wells have a combined capacity of 1.22 Million gpd. This Well System currently serves customers in Dunlo/Krayn as well as Onnalinda. However, though operated as a stand-alone system provisions have been constructed to allow for a rather simple interconnection into the Beaverdam System, should the need arise.
